Fredrick L. "Ricky" Banks was born in Leflore County and has resided here all his life except for the three years he served in the military.  He and his Wife, Ann, have one daughter who is married and also resides in Leflore County with their three grandchildren.Leflore County sheriff badge

He came to work with Leflore County Sheriff's Department in January of 1972 and served as Chief Deputy from June of 1972 until he was elected Sheriff in November of 1979 and took office in January, 1980.  The Sheriff is now serving his Seventh Term.  The Leflore County Sheriff's Department has grown from an office with only five deputies to twenty full time deputies and numerous volunteer and part-time deputies.  Under Sheriff Banks leadership, a new Sheriff Department building was constructed on Baldwin Road located next to the Jail. The building was open in January, 2007.

The Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing the best possible law enforcement protection and service to Leflore County. The welfare and protection of the County's citizens is our first priority.

The Office's duties include; investigating complaints, emergency response, patrolling, executing warrants, maintaining the County jail, court security, criminal investigations, and arresting suspects.
